About Forget Me Not Food

About 7 years ago, my Dad and I were sitting on a bench, eating ice cream at our secret spot on the Delaware River canal. We were admiring the flowers outside a nearby restaurant when my Dad said, “Out of all the flowers in the world, Forget-Me-Nots are my favorite.” At the time, I thought it was unusual that this was my Dad’s favorite flower. He was a flower connoisseur, and if given the choice of any, he would choose Forget-Me-Nots - tiny, delicate wildflowers that are often picked or mowed only to make room for roses, tulips, and other, more “sought-after” flowers. But, looking back on this later made me realize the beauty in his statement that ironically never left my mind.

My Dad suffered a pulmonary embolism a year later and did not survive - a true testament to the saying “only the good die young.”

Forget-Me-Nots are symbolic of my Dad in many ways. They humbly possess a deeper beauty, live and thrive simply, and happily coexist with any other type of flower. They demonstrate the beauty in purity and simplicity, much like he did, and symbolize love in its truest form and remembrance after death.

Forget Me Not Food is not only a tribute to my Dad, truly the best person I’ve ever known and my best buddy, but also a way for me to put into practice the scientific principles he instilled in me all throughout our time together. He taught me to never stop seeking discovery in order to better understand the wonderful world that we live in and to always live in the moment - two things that cooking and baking make easy to do.

Through Forget Me Not Food, I hope to share with you not only the things that make cooking and baking truly magical, but also a little bit of the greatest person I have ever known.

My Dad said it many times: Don’t wish time away. Life is good, and life is short. Savor every moment and love like there’s no tomorrow.
