Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie Skillet

Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie Skillet

Everything tastes better in a skillet!

Ingredients:

  • 2 sticks + 1 tbsp butter, softened & separated
  • 1 cup (200 g) sugar
  • 1 Tbsp sour cream
  • 1 Tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 egg
  • 2 1/2 cups (300 g) flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Desired amount of chocolate chips

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F & place 3 Tbsp butter in a large cast iron skillet. Place skillet in the oven while it preheats.
  2. Meanwhile, brown the butter: In a saucepan on medium heat, melt 6 tbsp butter. Once melted, continuously stir the butter on the heat (scraping the bottom of the pan) as it foams & turns golden brown (3-4 mins). Continue stirring as the milk solids at the bottom of the pan start to brown after about 5 mins (they look like little specs) & the liquid turns amber color. When this happens, immediately remove from heat & let cool to room temp.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the remaining 8 Tbsp of softened butter with the sugar for 3 minutes with an electric mixer on medium speed.
  4. Then, mix in cooled brown butter, sour cream, vanilla extract, & egg until incorporated.
  5. Then, mix in flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, & chocolate chips just until incorporated.
  6. Using oven mitts, remove skillet from the oven & press the cookie dough into the skillet in an even layer. Bake for 25-27 minutes or until crispy on the edges & golden brown, then enjoy!!
